
AUTOMATIC METER READING
F.E.M. Electrics Members no longer have to read their meters. Starting in July of 2006, we installed specialized equipment in our substations and office, so that we can read the meters directly from our office and bill the consumers for the energy used. This is called Automated Meter Reading – or "AMR".
FEM finished installing this equipment and had all substations up and runing by October 2007. We are excited to offer this service, and we hope it makes life a little bit easier for our members. It is another way to accomplish our mission of "improving the quality of life of our member-consumers."
Each member was notified when their meter was switched to an AMR meter. From that point, the meters were read at the F.E.M. office and a bill is sent out to the consumer on or around the 25th of the month.
All payments are due by the 9th of each month or a $5.00 penalty charge will be added to each account that is past due. If an account becomes delinquent at anytime, a delinquent notice will be sent on or around the 17th of the month. If the account is still in arrears on or around the 24th of the month, a disconnect notice is sent to the member. Payment is due on or around the 28th. If we do not receive it, the linemen will be sent out to read the meter and disconnect the service. There will be an additional $20.80 trip charge assessed to your account. When the account is paid up to date, a $20.80 connect fee will be due plus a deposit may be required in order for the service to be reconnected.
